SOC Analyst: Blue Team from Zero

Start from zero and learn the work of a SOC analyst: monitor, detect and investigate attacks with a SIEM, Wireshark and TheHive, alongside the full TryHackMe SOC path.

  • Beginner
  • 64 hours
  • Taught in Arabic

What you will learn

For complete beginners from any background: from zero to working as a tier 1 SOC analyst. 16 weeks, 64 hours, hands-on labs every week.

  • Your own Mini SOC lab: SIEM, TheHive and MISP running on your machine
  • Network traffic analysis with Wireshark and Zeek
  • Reading Windows, Linux and Sysmon logs to spot intrusions
  • Triaging alerts, investigating them and writing an incident report
  • The full TryHackMe SOC Level 1 path and a profile employers can check
  • A graduation CTF and a mock interview

This course is for you if

  • Complete beginners from any faculty: no programming or networking background needed
  • Career switchers who want to move into cybersecurity as a SOC analyst
  • CS and communications students and graduates who want real hands-on security work before applying

Before day 1

  • Nothing technical: we start from zero and explain the networking you need along the way
  • A free TryHackMe account, for the practice path we solve week by week
  • VMware or VirtualBox installed. We set them up together in week 1 if anything fails

Laptop: A laptop or desktop with 16 GB RAM (8 GB minimum) and 60 GB free SSD space, to run the lab virtual machines

The project you build

Mini SOC

A small company network in your lab with a SIEM, an incident system and a threat intel platform. Every week new alerts land in it and you investigate them like a tier 1 analyst.

One real app, built step by step across the course, the way we build apps at predev.

  • Central logs from Windows and Linux machines in Elastic
  • Dashboards and searches you build yourself in Kibana
  • Cases tracked from alert to closing in TheHive
  • Indicators shared and matched in MISP

What you will use

SOC foundations and toolsWeeks 1–5

Blue team work, SOC roles, incident management in TheHive, threat intelligence in MISP, and SIEM with the Elastic Stack.

  1. Week 1Blue team basics and lab setup

    • 1What defenders do: events, alerts and incidentsLab: Build your virtual lab and start TryHackMe's intro rooms.
  2. Week 2Inside a SOC

    • 1Tier 1, 2 and 3 roles and a network built to be defendedLab: Sort a batch of alerts by type and urgency.
  3. Week 3Managing incidents

    • 1The life of a case: from alert to reportLab: Open, investigate and document a case in TheHive.
  4. Week 4Threat intelligence

    • 1Indicators of compromise and how attackers workLab: Import indicators into MISP and match them to your logs.
  5. Week 5SIEM with the Elastic Stack

    • 1Central logging with Elasticsearch, Logstash and KibanaLab: Search with KQL and build your first SOC dashboard.
Network analysisWeeks 6–9

Capturing and reading traffic in Wireshark, and how to spot attacks over DNS, the web, email and phishing.

  1. Week 6Capturing network traffic

    • 1Packets, TAPs and SPAN ports, and reading traffic in WiresharkLab: Find the suspicious connections in a PCAP file.
  2. Week 7DNS and the attacks that hide in it

    • 1DNS tunnelling, fast flux and generated domainsLab: Spot a command and control channel hiding in DNS traffic.
  3. Week 8Web traffic: HTTP and HTTPS

    • 1Requests, headers, intrusion attempts and encrypted trafficLab: Catch a malicious download in web logs with Zeek.
  4. Week 9Email and phishing

    • 1Email headers, SPF, DKIM and DMARCLab: Take apart a targeted phishing email and its attachment.
Endpoints, logs and filesWeeks 10–13

Windows, Sysmon and Linux logs, normalising and enriching logs, and examining suspicious files safely.

  1. Week 10Windows logging

    • 1How attackers move on endpoints, and defence in depthLab: Turn on and audit the Windows logs that matter, plus Sysmon.
  2. Week 11Reading Windows events

    • 1Process creation, privilege escalation and registry changesLab: Trace an intrusion step by step in Event Viewer and Sysmon.
  3. Week 12Linux logs and normalising data

    • 1/var/log, auditd and making logs from many sources matchLab: Enrich your logs and build visualisations from them.
  4. Week 13Suspicious files

    • 1File types, magic bytes and obfuscated code, without running itLab: Examine a malware sample safely and pull out its hashes.
Triage, analysis and detection tuningWeeks 14–15

Prioritising alerts, structured analysis, cutting false positives and the basics of automation with SOAR.

  1. Week 14Alert triage and structured analysis

    • 1Alert fatigue, priorities and testing your hypothesesLab: A timed triage challenge on a queue of real-looking alerts.
  2. Week 15Tuning detections and automation

    • 1Cutting false positives, writing detection rules, SOAR basicsLab: Tune a noisy rule and automate one triage step.
Containment and graduationWeek 16

Containing infected machines, interview preparation, the graduation CTF and the final project: a full attack investigation and incident report.

  1. Week 16Containment, careers and the final CTF

    • 1Containing an intrusion, interview prep and a blue team CTFLab: Isolate an infected machine, then compete in the graduation CTF.

Your graduation project

Investigate a full simulated attack on the Mini SOC network from the first alert to containment, and write the incident report a real SOC would send.

  • A timeline of the attack built from SIEM, network and endpoint evidence
  • The case documented in TheHive, with indicators added to MISP
  • A clear incident report with impact, root cause and recommendations
  • A short mock interview on how you handled the case

Where this takes you

  • Junior SOC Analyst (Tier 1)
  • SOC Analyst (Tier 2) with experience
  • Cyber Defense Operations Specialist
  • Incident Response Associate
  • Security monitoring roles at banks, telecoms and managed security providers

Questions

I've never studied networks. Can I still join?

Yes. The course starts from zero and explains the networking you need right before you use it.

What is TryHackMe and do I pay for it?

It's an online practice platform. We solve its SOC Level 1 path week by week alongside the course, and you finish with a profile employers can check. A free account is enough to start.

Does this prepare me for a certificate?

It covers the skills SOC analyst certificates test, such as GIAC GSOC, so it's a strong base if you want to sit one later. The exam itself is booked and paid separately.

Do I need to know programming first?

Not for a course marked From zero. If you are not sure which track fits you, start with Starter.

What if I miss a session?

Every session is recorded and stays in the app for 6 months, and you can ask about it in the next session.

Is it in person or online?

Both. You attend in person or join live online, and you can switch when you need to.

How do I pay?

After we call you and confirm your seat. You can pay in 2 installments by mobile wallet or cash, and you get a receipt for every payment.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes, when you attend 80% of the sessions and score 75% on the weekly tasks. Every certificate has a link anyone can open to check it.
